Communion

“I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer” (Luke 22:15)

Communion is a sacrament initiated by Jesus, signifying God's

covenant of grace and calling us to reflect on his redeeming sacrifice.

It is symbolized by the shared breaking of bread and drinking of juice.

In partaking in communion we intersect with 3 concepts that elucidate his sacrifice:

Remembrance (Luke 22:19-20), Community (1 Cor. 11:17-22), Mystery (1 Cor. 11:27-30).

  • Remembrance: Communion is an act of worship meant to unite us with the Savior's redeeming work whenever we partake.
  • Community: Communion is an act of unity that places humanity at the center of His sacrifice, revealing our collective brokenness and need.
  • Mystery: Communion allows us to abide in God's mysterious provision; it is a gift given to reinvigorate and reconnect us to Jesus; it does not require our full comprehension.

We partake in Communion within Gospel Communities monthly

and within corporate worship quarterly.
